Abstract In this paper, an attempt is made to derive the variation equatios of the discharge current and the luminous flux for flourescent lamp subjected to a transverse magnetic field. As the field increases, so do the electric field, the electron temperature, and the luminous flux, while the current decreases. The theory is in a reasonable agreement with the experimental results, taking account of many approximations and restrictions.
