Abstract To connect a generator to a power system in operation, a synchronization process is required to match their voltage magnitudes, frequencies, and phase angles. Since it is impossible to change the voltage magnitude and frequency of the power system, the generator must be synchronized to match them. In the past, a skilled operator manually adjusted the generator’s voltage to achieve synchronization, but nowadays an Auto-Synchronizer (Device 25A) is used for faster and more accurate synchronization. The auto-synchronizer adjusts the generator's voltage magnitude and frequency to match those of the power system by sending control signals to the generator. However, because the device lacks information about the response characteristics of the generator system, it commonly use a method that involves sending short-duration pulses at regular intervals and performing feedback control until the target values are reached. This is a very stable control method that does not cause overshoots, but it takes a long time because many loops are repeated until the target value is reached. This paper is written to propose an algorithm to shorten the time required to synchronize a generator by estimating the response characteristics of the generator and optimizing the control signal to reduce the number of feedback control loops.
