Abstract This paper presents a boost DC/DC converter modeling and controller design for compact EV(Electric Vehicles) battery charger using PV(Photovoltaic) energy. Recently, they have many concerns about EV battery charger and DC distribution system for green energy. This paper discusses the DCM(discontinuous conduction mode) modeling of the boost converter for compact EV battery charger with averaged switch modeling. The design of the converter controller is arranged with zero point and the root locus theory. That is well suited for the DCM boost DC/DC converter. Frequency-responses predicted by the averaged switch modeling is verified by MATLAB simulation and experiments. The feature and design considerations are illustrated and verified through the experiment with a 40㎑ MOSFET based experimental circuit.
